Endurance Wind Power has today launched four new farm-scale wind turbine models at the Country Land and Business (CLA) Game Fair. The turbines are targeted specifically at farmers and landowners who wish to invest in turbines with a higher financial return and power output than smaller turbines can provide.
The new X Series turbine range has evolved from the successful 225kW X29 turbine launched last year by Endurance, a design based on 30 years of knowledge, technology and “in field” experience from hundreds of turbines worldwide from the leading Danish turbine designer Norwin. The launch of the four new designs is the result of the combined efforts and alliance between Endurance and Norwin. In addition to the transfer of intellectual property to Endurance for the X turbine model, Norwin’s Danish wind specialists are now formally a part of the global Endurance team.
According to the latest industry figures, the farm wind market is booming. A recent report from Smartest Energy shows that the
number of farm-owned wind projects in the UK almost doubled last year (up 95%) and the value of wholesale power generation by farm schemes totalled £34.6 million.
RenewableUK’s latest figures also show that installations of turbines in the 15-500kW range increased by 43% between 2012 and 2013. Over the same period, Endurance turbine installations made up over 40% of the total number of 15-500kW turbine installations, demonstrating Endurance’s prominence in the farm wind market in the UK. Based on current projections, this looks set to continue into 2014, following the opening of Endurance’s UK factory last year.
In response to this growing demand, and the need for more efficient turbines in light of scheduled reductions to the Feed-in Tariff, Endurance has begun production of the X Series at their new manufacturing facility in the West Midlands. The latest X Series models, ranging from 180kW to 225kW in size, are a fraction of the size of traditional utility scale turbines and even more efficient and quieter than their predecessors. The models include the:
• 225kW X35 – With a large rotor designed for low winds this turbine is the highest energy performer suited for most sites in the UK
• 180kW X35Q – Low rotor speed and nominal power make this turbine push the boundaries for wind sites previously discounted for inadequate wind or grid capacity
• 225kW X33 – Optimised to be the most efficient turbine under 250kW in the UK on mid wind speed sites
• 225kW X30 – Rugged and ready for most extreme wind conditions this turbine goes where the others wont
Endurance will be showcasing this new technology at the CLA Game Fair at Blenheim Palace from 18th – 20th July, where they will be sponsoring the Renewables Zone for the second year running.
Dave Rankin, UK Managing Director of Endurance Wind Power said:
“The Norwin alliance and the subsequent new turbine range is a great step forward – a win-win for employees and farmers. By bringing these two great teams together, we can now offer our growing customer base an even better product at a time when the Feed-in Tariff continues to undergo its scheduled series of reductions.”
Ole Sangill, CEO of Norwin, and newly appointed Vice President of Technology at Endurance Wind Power said:
“Driving the design of the X turbine to new levels of performance is a long-time wish come true made possible by joining forces with Endurance. Our combined strength enables us to have a truly international reach and presence, becoming the global leader in the small and medium wind turbine market, and the Norwin team and I now working out of Endurance Denmark are really excited”.
Tony Wall, CLA Game Fair Director said:
“We are delighted Endurance Wind Power is yet again sponsoring the Renewables Zone at this year’s CLA Game Fair. It is an opportunity for CLA members and other visitors to learn about the benefits of owning and operating small and medium-sized wind turbines.”
