Shanks’ new Shared Service Centre (‘SSC’) in the Netherlands has achieved a key milestone as all regions in the Solid Waste Netherlands business have now transferred their administrative services to it on schedule.
Based at the company’s office in Amersfoort, all regions have now transitioned their back office functions to the SSC, with all financial transactions except for customer billing now managed by this central team. The SSC brings together critical functions
from across the Solid Waste business, comprising finance and accounts, HR administration and payroll.
Following a year of preparation, the first of the three Netherlands Solid Waste regions went live at the SSC in March, followed by another in April and the third in June. Having established a single centre of excellence at the SSC, the process of standardisation of processes and enhancement of systems will drive ongoing cost savings. Together with new procurement and continuous improvement initiatives, the consolidation of these back office functions forms a key part of Shanks’ structural cost programme.
Pim te Riele, Head of Shared Services at Shanks said,
“The SSC forms a major part of our transformational journey which will maximise efficiency and economies of scale. Now that we have brought these key business functions together, we will drive more efficient people and technology processes to create a first-class SSC which brings real benefit to our business. We look forward to an exciting journey ahead.”
