Leading UK metal supplier Tegrel Limited has made a commitment to carbon reduction by installing a Vickers energy management system to cut energy usage by almost half.
The company’s Environmental Policy was introduced to significantly improve efficiency and address social corporate responsibility. The Vickers energy management system was installed at Blaydon-on-Tyne site to control the Powermatic and Reznor warm air heating. At the end of the first year of installation the company has seen a huge reduction of 227,007 kWh and cut gas bills by £9,687.
Through a single centralised control unit the system regulates the heating across different temperature zones without the need for manual intervention. Highly accurate digital sensors are positioned throughout the depots and calibrated to ensure 0.1degree accuracy.
The system is self-learning and uses predictive tools to constantly adapt heat settings to maintain the required temperatures in every zone of the building. It automatically factors in unpredictable issues such as the weather, open doors, manual errors, machinery malfunctions and more and can be controlled remotely by Vickers in its Manchester offices.
David Hilton from Vickers Energy Group comments: “Working with Tegrel and being part of its environmental policy has been a great project to work on. The whole company is dedicated to improving efficiency and our system has gone some way to achieving that. The savings of £9,687 are only the start and we look forward to even more in years to come.”
David Oliphant, Project Manager at Tegrel, added: The system continues to do what was proposed at our earliest product review meetings and has paid for itself. We look forward to years of further cost savings and support of our commitment to reduced environmental impact.
Tegrel has won awards for its environmental innovation and shown huge commitment through a number of strategies.
Vickers has recently been awarded with the accolades of Energy Product of the Year from the prestigious Environment and Energy Awards 2014, a Gold Green Apple Award within their Energy Saving Category, Green Business of the Year at the Trafford Business Awards and is accredited by the Carbon Trust.
