The world’s most fuel-efficient hybrid car, the Volkswagen XL1, will be on display in the Design Museum in London alongside other
Designs of the Year award nominees until 25 August. The Volkswagen XL1 uses only 0.9 litres of fuel per 100 km (or 313 mpg), giving it a very low carbon dioxide emissions value of 21 g/km. The XL1 is being ‘handcrafted’ at Volkswagen’s Osnabrück factory in Germany. Approximately 30 are expected to be exported to the UK.
